Building a new foundation for private chats
We separated the future private-chat path from current conversations and are testing it piece by piece before connecting it to the app.
Why it matters
Moving private messages onto a new cryptographic foundation cannot be done with a single switch. We first placed it in a separate technical path that is not connected to regular chats and does not change how they work.
That path now has isolated cryptography, encrypted local storage, crash recovery for incoming and outgoing data, and checks for devices and changes in conversation membership.
Individual parts passed automated checks on a host machine, Android emulator, and iOS simulator. This verifies the foundation, not a finished mode for people.
The new path is not enabled in the app. Physical-device testing, full integration, and independent cryptographic review remain before it can be connected.
